In an opinion concerning America's law making it a crime to provide material support to designated foreign terrorist organizations, a federal judge recently wrote the following dicta:
"Applying international law principles, [the plaintiffs] have concluded that the PKK [Kurdistan Workers' Party] is a party to an armed conflict governed by Geneva Conventions and Protocols and, therefore, is not a terrorist organization under international law." See Humanitarian Law Project v. Ashcroft, at slip op. page 6 (C.D. Cal., Jan. 22, 2004).
What do you think of this domestic law application of international law?

The Pentagon today stated that Saddam Hussein is a prisoner of war under the Geneva Convention, and then retracted that, saying his exact status is undecided, but that he is being treated in accord with the Geneva Convention. The "Geneva Convention" is actually a series of conventions, more accurately referred to as the "Geneva Conventions." The convention the Pentagon is referencing is a 1949 agreement. See Convention III.
